SPEAKER_00

What's up, everyone? Welcome back to another episode of One on One with Austin One. I'm your host, KT Temple, and today it's all about coaching again, as we have our coaching extraordinaire Kenny on the podcast with us today. Thanks for joining me, man.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no problem, man. Glad to be here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, man. So, Kenny, what is your job at KW Austin One? What are you?

SPEAKER_01

So I am the productivity coach, which means that any new agent who joins our market centers get the wonderful privilege, I get the wonderful privilege of helping them through their first few transactions and making sure that they uh know everything they need to know to get their business up and going.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome. And so what got you into real estate? How did you get into this role?

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, so um so my mother is actually have has been in the real estate industry for the past, I think it's like 27, 27, 28 years or so. Um my stepdad's a realtor. Um my sister works for my mother, um, my aunt is a real estate agent as well. So it's it's it's always been there. Um I can actually remember um when I was in middle school, I think it was sixth grade, my mom was studying for her license um exam, and um, she had all her books out on the bed. I was like, oh, what's going on? She's like, I'm starting a new career. So, anyways, um, so uh, you know, it's it was um it was an easy transition from a past career, but yeah, so that's that's where I got my start.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome. And so it's it's your stepdad, your sister, your mom, everybody's in real estate.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That's awesome, man. So talk about when somebody joins the KW office. They get introduced to you, and what does that journey really look like for them?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, you know, I mean, and obviously everyone's um career is gonna look a little bit different, and um, you know, everyone has their own wants and needs and goals that they want to hit. But, you know, essentially I'm there to support them um in working in the business as far as how do we use command, how do we use our back-end software, um, you know, how to help, you know, questions on negotiating, questions on writing contracts, um, addenda, all that fun stuff, um, you know, uh conversation practice, um, you know, little little things here and there that help them move forward in whatever their goal is. Um and so um everyone's path looks a little bit different, but I think in the whole, you know, it's it's there to support them in their journey to get what they want when they want it.

SPEAKER_00

I know one of the things a lot of new agents struggles with is just having the confidence to you know make the phone call, to go on the listing appointment. They really have that um that that stop in their brain saying, I'm not ready for this. How do you help push them past that?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know, I think the biggest thing about being ready is it's actually just a choice. Um you know, uh, and once you decide that you are ready, you know, you you can move forward past that fear, that little drunk monkey on your shoulder. And um, you know, I tell them that that even being in real estate for me almost almost 10 years now, there's still situations and scenarios that I run into that I'm like, oh, I haven't experienced this yet, or or what do I do in this scenario? And you know, I think the best thing about being a part of KW is that you have the support, you have this network of agents, you know, who have done things and been in real estate for many, many years, and um that you can tap into and say, hey, has anybody experienced this? How would you handle this situation scenario? Um, you know, and um so it's it's it's a really good resource to have. Um, but yeah, the tough part, the tough part is is um getting over that mental block of needing to feel that you have to have all the answers and and know say all the right things before you just jump into it and go.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah, you're never really ready, is what I kind of tell people. Is that you we you could go to every class in the world until you have that first transaction, you're you're not gonna know enough to be ever ready for it. You just gotta do it.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And and I think too, at the end of the day, if you um are the are the source of the source of information and able to find answers for people, especially if you don't know the answer, um, people are gonna respect you regardless of if it's your first year or your 20th year.

SPEAKER_00

So of all the all the agents you've been coaching, what are some of the habits that you see the excess of the successful ones have? Like what is the common thing that people are doing that really gets them out of coaching? You know, they get to graduate.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's it's two things really. It's it's showing up and being present and participating, whether it's in group coaching, uh, one-on-ones, uh, you know, going to breakthrough 120, um, you know, just showing up, is that's half the battle. And the second thing is not being afraid to make mistakes. Um, you know, I think a lot of people always say that um, you know, uh uh a mistake is the best teacher. I say, well, that's that's half true. You know, a mistake or failure is the best teacher if it's reflected upon and you learn from that mistake and and you take that experience and and build on it. So I think those two things definitely help newer agents succeed is showing up and not being afraid to make mistakes.

SPEAKER_00

So a lot of people think coaching is just telling people what to do, but as you know, it's more about questions. And so when someone sits down with you, what are some questions that you ask them to get them to really reflect on their activities and what they're doing to get business?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so the the first big piece of the puzzle is you know, why you're why you're doing this. You know, I know in KW's really big on your why and having a big why to drive um your some of the boring, monotonous everyday things and to help fuel when you do get rejected or when you when you do feel like things are a little bit tougher. So really leaning to that why is a really good important key to keeping keeping the needle moving forward. Um and then you know, what's the goal? You know, uh where do you see yourself in six, nine, twelve months? Um and um digging into that goal and again, tying it back to the why. So um it's just a series of of bouncing back and forth between those two things and offering up questions that would help you know them them frame their their mindset a little bit differently. And obviously, there's tons of scenarios that can happen. Um, but um yeah, so essentially that's that's where we start.

SPEAKER_00

The real estate world has changed a lot, especially with all the lawsuits, you know, different things happening, companies merging together. What do you say to agents who kind of get distracted in those things that help them stay focused?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like this the shiny object syndrome and and all that fun stuff. Well, the at the end of the day, I I tell them that real estate is truly about relationships and um uh you know, tapping into those relationships, nurturing those relationships, um, whether it's people who have no idea who you are or you know your best friend. And um, you know, whether or not XYZ company merges with this XYZ company, or you know, there's this new brand new AI software that's gonna, you know, Skynet's gonna take over whatever it might be, right? Um at the end of the day, if you're not talking to people about real estate and letting them know that you, you know, you're a realtor and you can help their needs, you know, when the time comes, it doesn't matter. You know, it doesn't matter. Uh none of that, all that's just fluff and noise. And obviously there's some really good things um and interesting things that come out of those those news, news headlines, but um, at the end of the day, you just got to talk to people.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So what what any other pieces of advice for for new agents listening to this, wanting to figure out where to get started?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, uh, you know, we've got a saying here at KW, and and it's no one succeeds alone. And um, you know, so make sure you partner with the right uh the person and um soak in as much information as you can. It's it's tough when you start at new because you know it's like you're drinking water from a fire hose with all the information that you get and all the things that you could do and all the things that, you know, the technology that's out there and um and whatnot. And I would say uh get with the right person, the right coach, talk about your goals, talk about your why, um, and then you know, build out a plan that's um a roadmap, so to speak, you know, with activities that you feel comfortable executing on and execute the plan.

SPEAKER_00

Awesome, man. Kenny, where can people follow you or get in touch with you if they have any questions or want to get into coaching?

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, uh well, number one, they can call me. Um so I'm sure maybe you'll have my number in the show notes or whatever, but um 775-600-7504 uh or Kenny Heaton at KW.com. Um I'll be popping in and out of the Northwest Market Center, Southwest Market Center, or Lake Travis office as well. Um I'm on Instagram, KennyATX. I mean, I'm kind of a big deal on there. I mean, people know me.

SPEAKER_00

Perfect, man. Well, thank you for joining us. Guys, we got a couple announcements before we wrap up. Uh, do want to remind you that docusign is being sent to the farm.
